The challenge

Our work with Brent Council was about giving the Brent Communities, Adult Social Care and Health team the capabilities to continue delivering change and transformation as well as a clear set of priorities and a plan for change.

Our approach

Our multi-pronged approach included:

  1. Defining Transformation priorities: working with the department and wider council stakeholders to define five key priorities: Day Opportunities, Prevention, Digital, Co-production and community partnerships and Carers.
  1. Identifying and scoping opportunities: supporting Departmental Management Team staff to identify needs and scope projects, actions and milestones to resolve those needs.
  1. Creating the tools for success: designing a toolkit of resources for the team to help establish and assure all projects to a high standard.
  1. Establishing governance and reporting practices: creating a new way of working for the Departmental Management Team where their meetings were used to assure and drive project delivery. We also established a new Transformation Board, uniting stakeholders across Brent Council in delivering on agreed Transformation priorities.
  1. Upskilling team members: supporting the upskilling of team members through formal and informal training on project and programme management, continually adapting to the needs and requirements of the team.
Our Impact

This work aligned the Departmental Management Team, and stakeholders beyond the services, around shared strategic transformation priorities and produced detailed plans, outcomes and deliverables against each of these.

Through the Transformation Board, and upskilling of existing staff members, the team now has the systems, tools and capabilities to deliver for residents into the future.
