PPL is proud to be supporting the work of Covax with an immediate donation of £10,000 from our 2021 Social Impact Fund.
In February 2021, Ghana became the first country to receive vaccines from Covax, a global initiative to provide equitable access to Covid-19 vaccination for the world’s population. Mass vaccination remains a challenge everywhere, whilst the pandemic has highlighted and worsened inequalities in many nations.
In the context of a global emergency, it is particularly important that countries are not left behind.
The Covax scheme is working to ensure 92 poorer countries receive access to vaccines at the same time as 98 wealthier countries.
Led by the World Health Organization (WHO) with the Global Vaccine Alliance (Gavi) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (Cepi), Covax has raised over £4.3 billion to support this effort. However, the scheme is still £1.4 billion short of its target this year.
PPL co-founder and managing partner Claire Kennedy said “The pandemic has taken a terrible toll around the world and we are privileged to be in a position to do something practical to help protect frontline professionals, individuals and communities and enable them to return to a more normal life”.
PPL is a social enterprise that exists to promote better health, wellbeing and economic outcomes across the UK and internationally, working with individuals, communities and the organisations that support them.
