Dr Folarin Majekodunmi
Folarin brings over a decade of health and public-sector consultancy experience, covering acute services, commissioning, primary care and out-of-hospital services, system-level governance and telecare / telehealth.
Folarin leads Analytics and Insight at PPL, with a focus on using data analytics to enable fundamental improvements in patient care and outcomes. His expertise, combined with his experience across the NHS, gives him a firm grounding in delivering robust, high-quality clinical / non-clinical change programmes that minimise unnecessary disruption and provide assurance to local, regional and national stakeholders.
Folarin was recently Programme Director on a high-profile review of the health and care system on the Isle of Man, which covered data analytics, clinical transformation, the creation of new models of care and the design and implementation of integrated care pathways. The review was unanimously accepted by Tynwald (the Isle of Man parliament) and was well received by the review sponsors, an expert panel and the Treasury. Patient representatives and voluntary sector leaders fed back that it addressed their concerns and provided a clear and credible ‘roadmap’ for the way forward. In response to the review, the Treasury released an initial tranche of £2.5 million in transformation funding to support the implementation of its recommendations.
Since July 2018, Folarin has been a Senior Programme Manager on the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme, across 10 workstreams (including Orthopaedics and General Surgery), working with Senior Clinicians to deliver improvements in clinical practice across the NHS.
Prior to joining PPL, Folarin was a Delivery Director for the creation of the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) for the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw health system. The plan was one of eight (of a total of forty-four) rated excellent by UK Healthcare regulators, NHS England and NHS Improvement.
Over the course of his career Folarin has successfully contributed to high-profile projects for industry leading organisations, such the ‘Selecting Spacecraft Materials System’ for NASA and “The Changing Face of Business in 21st Century Britain” for HSBC. Folarin was granted ‘Trusted Expert’ status by QinetiQ and fellowship of the Royal Society for Medicine. He is the Chair of the National Association for Patient Participation (NAPP) and the co-author of a medical devices handbook and three further publications in the health and social sciences.
Folarin has a Ph.D. from King’s College University of London and BSc (Hons) Imperial College.
