In episode five of our ‘Do What You Can’ Insight Series, Claire Kennedy speaks to Nigel Edwards – former Nuffield trust and Chair of the PPL Senior Advisory Group.

Claire and Nigel discuss the challenges that often stand in the way of making positive change and look at how to overcome them. Nigel comments on the need to focus on primary care as well as the importance of supporting the workforce which is on the receiving end of many policy decisions made for the health care system.

Nigel was Chief Executive of the Nuffield trust until 2023, when he joined PPL as a Senior Advisor. He has worked for the King’s Fund, KPMG’s global practice and the NHS Confederation where he was Director of Policy and later Chief Executive.

He has a breadth of experience in health service management and health policy, focusing particularly on innovation and change in the delivery of health services across the UK and internationally. He works regularly with the World Health Organisation and is a contributor to the BMJ.

At PPL, our experience across local government, the NHS, and the voluntary sector has shown us how political choices impact communities deeply. As we enter a new era of British politics, we recognise the importance, above all, of engaging with this change.

In our ‘Do What You Can’ Insight Series, we share our Senior Advisors’ perspective on what’s needed for positive change in this new era of British politics. We’ll discuss their learnings, sources of hope and personal actions for improvement.
