Our impact

At PPL, we do business differently.

We are passionate about having a positive impact on the world around us. As a social enterprise, we reinvest at least half of our profits every year with our third sector partners, to achieve our ambition of improving health and wellbeing outcomes across the UK.

Through our unique business model, we are proud to deliver impact in three ways – through our outstanding client consultancy work; through our social impact fund and through our volunteering programme.

Impact Report

Our annual Impact Report summarises our impact as a team in the preceding year.

It is an opportunity to evaluate the work we have undertaken in partnership with clients and community groups, to reflect on the changes that have resulted, share relevant learning, and to understand priorities for the year ahead.

PPL Hub at Mill Street

As part of of our commitment to developing new models of social value creation, in 2023 we opened the PPL Hub. The Hub is a co-working and events space in the heart of Bermondsey. PPL funds the Hub entirely from our social impact fund, on behalf of the wider voluntary and social sector.

The space is available for voluntary & community and public sector partners to reserve and use at no cost.  For our VCSE colleagues in particular, this enables them to focus their time and resources on the individuals and communities they support, whilst having access to a shared space whenever they need it to facilitate their work.

Our Donations Programme

PPL was founded on the principles of social entrepreneurship.  In 2019 we formally became a member of Social Enterprise UK.  This was an important step for us in sharing how we work as an organisation and supporting other social enterprises to develop and grow.

As a social enterprise, we reinvest a minimum of 50% of our profits each year to support charities and community groups through our Social Impact Fund.  This includes organisations in the areas where we work, across the UK as a whole and internationally.  Full details of our donations are published annually in our Impact Report.

Mill Street Nights

We believe passionately in the power of connection and of creating spaces where people can come together to think positively and practically about innovative ways of doing things. Our Mill Street Nights programme is an opportunity to do just that! The quarterly events are an opportunity for colleagues to identify things they can do, however small those things might seem, that can create positive impact.

We know that innovation comes when people are empowered to act differently, and that we at PPL have a role in catalysing and supporting positive action – as we say, ‘even doing nothing is a choice’.

Mill Street Nights take place under what we term Mill Street Rules – “no minutes; only actions”.

Volunteering

We commit hundreds of hours of volunteer time every year to causes we care about. And we make regular donations to our charity partners, enabling them to have impact in areas and ways that go beyond what we can achieve ourselves.

PPL were instrumental in mobilising NHS Seacole at pace. Their experience was invaluable in developing the business case. PPL were an integral part of the team – I did not see them as external advisors.

Working in collaboration with PPL we have managed to create a strategy that represents the needs of our organisation and of our clinical and operational teams. PPL guided us through the process and made sure we put patients and staff at the centre of this work. We now have a strategy that is owned by our organisation and is viewed as such.

I wanted to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to you both, Iyoni and Josh. You are both just wonderful people! You have been so incredible throughout this whole process, always encouraging and seeking to explore, finding opportunities rather than barriers and it really inspiring.

I have learnt so much and try to think more like you both by listening with curiosity and how I can do things differently if I come across an obstacle.

I will miss working with you, and wish you all the very best.
