Former Nuffield chief exec, Nigel Edwards, and previous Mencap CEO, Edel Harris, join social enterprise management consultancy, PPL, as senior advisors.

Management consultancy, PPL, has appointed former chief executive of the Nuffield Trust, Nigel Edwards, and former chief executive of Mencap, Edel Harris OBE as senior advisors.

Edwards and Harris are the latest appointments to the senior advisor team at PPL, which also includes Professor Paul Corrigan CBE, Ren Kapur MBE, Sean Harriss, Halima Khan and Charlotte Augst.

Edwards, who has been described as one of the most influential voices on UK healthcare policy in the 21st century, explains his decision to work with PPL:

‘I have worked with PPL several times over the last five years and have been consistently impressed by their rigor and professionalism.  The social enterprise values of the organisation are very different from other consulting firms I have worked with and permeate their work.’

Harris, who was awarded an OBE in 2021 for her services to the public sector and charity, and who steered Mencap through the pandemic, said:

‘I am delighted to be joining the team at PPL. I have had the good fortune to work with colleagues from PPL in the past and they delivered everything they said they would do and more. Our values are aligned and I love the social enterprise ethos.  I look forward to working with charities, other organisations and people who want to bring about positive change, and in using my experience to benefit others.’

The appointments of both Edwards and Harris bolster PPL’s drive to tackle some of the UK’s biggest health and social challenges, and to power positive, lasting change.

Claire Kennedy, joint chief executive of PPL, explains:

‘We’re honoured to welcome Nigel to the PPL team. He brings deep knowledge of NHS management and policy issues, experience of other health systems and a keen eye to ensure we are looking at the right questions, using appropriate methods and that our conclusions are incisive and evidence based. He is also an absolute pleasure to work with’.

Simon Morioka, joint chief executive of PPL, continued:

‘Edel brings a lifetime of public service, an exceptional track-record of voluntary and community sector leadership, and a passionate commitment to improving life outcomes including for people with learning disabilities. We are delighted to welcome her to PPL.

‘These latest senior advisor appointments at PPL bolster the expertise and lived experience we can draw on as a team and fortify us in our mission to drive positive change across the UK. It’s our aim to help solve the problems our society and public sector colleagues face. And Nigel and Edel are uniquely positioned to help us do this.’

As one of the Financial Times’ leading management consultancies, PPL is on a mission to do things differently. PPL is the only management consultancy in the UK that is both a social enterprise and a BCorp and as such reinvests 50% of its profits with third sector partners every year to improve health and wellbeing across the UK.
