Leading independent consultancy PPL has been appointed, as part of a consortium, to provide a national programme of support materials, tools and coaching to help implement Better Care plans across England.

Between now and the end of March, PPL along with consortium partners, KPMG, the Social Care Institute for Excellence and The Berkeley Partnership, will be developing national support products, workshops and interactive tools to support CCGs and local government in working together to deliver Better Care for patients, services users and carers.

The programme will also include the development of a network for sharing information on the integration of health and social care, enabling the Better Care Fund to meet its goal of creating more joined-up services and placing the well-being of patients at the heart of health and care services.

Aimed at overcoming some of the challenges faced by CCGs and local authorities in integrating health and social care services, the resources will be available over the next three months, with the consortium speaking to CCGs and local authorities over the coming weeks as part of a process of co-design before rolling out support products.

PPL’s co-founders Simon Morioka and Claire Kennedy said about the successful bid “We’re delighted to have been appointed to develop these materials as part of a strong consortium. We have considerable experience in public service transformation and this is an exciting opportunity to develop some innovative resources to help CCGs and local authorities deliver the best integrated services for health and care service users. Having previously been commissioned to develop an integrated care toolkit to enable local partners to understand the evidence and impact of delivering integrated care stands, we’re looking forward to using our expertise and experience to deliver the Better Care Fund resources.”

The Better Care Fund, worth £3.8bn, was launched in June 2013 and seeks to create more joined-up services locally, with patients experiencing integrated, whole-person care. The programme to create resources to support CCGs and local authorities in meeting these aspirations was jointly commissioned by the Department for Health, NHS England, Local Government Association and Department for Communities and Local Government.
